I am Beautiful, Inside and Out

This week’s “Affirmation of the Week” serves to remind you of your own beauty.

“I am Beautiful, Inside and Out”

All too often, I tend to focus on my outer flaws. It’s really easy for me to stand in front of the mirror and pick out all the things that are “wrong.” My face isn’t perfectly symmetrical. I have a chicken pox scar, almost dead center of my forehead. My stomach needs toning. Pregnancy ravaged my body and left parts of it covered in stretch marks. I am a far cry from the airbrushed models I see in magazines and the actresses I see on my favorite sitcoms. And it’s taken me a long time to realize that it’s okay. Even though I’m not supermodel material, I am still beautiful.

Now, instead of being so critical of myself when I walk past a mirror, I try to remember these things:

  • I have emerald green eyes. I’ve never met another green-eyed person who’s color comes close to mine. I love them.
  • That pregnancy may have destroyed my body, but it gave me an amazing person to care for and nurture. He’s eight now, and the “I love you, Mom” that I hear several times a day makes it all worth it. I’m just a tiger who’s “earned my stripes.”
  • Many people say they’d kill for my complexion and my hair.
My point here is: you will always be your biggest critic. I hate how my hair always looks red, even when it’s not. But, everyone else? They love it. No one but you will see the flaws that you do…and focusing on them is not healthy!

This affirmation will help you retrain your brain so that when you walk by the mirror you think: “Wow, my (insert favorite feature here) looks wonderful!” instead of “Oh, is that another blemish? Is that another wrinkle?” When you no longer have the self-hate when you look at yourself, you’ll experience a sense of relief and a sense of freedom like you’ve never felt before.

Is there someone in you life who you think needs a reminder that they are beautiful? Share this post with them to brighten their day!

I had to share it with a few of the women in my life, too. It’s important to never forget just how beautiful you are!

Wow, I never even thought about it that way! It’s so much easier when you know that there is something there, in my case scars, and only focus on your flaws rather than your natural beauty. I have been way too hard on myself after having kids and now I don’t that I’ve read this I’m going to start taking at least 5 minutes to myself each day for affirmation because I deserve it! thanks
